Saturday of the XXX Week in Ordinary Time

Saturday, October 31, 2026 Reading of the letter of the apostle Saint Paul to the Philippians (1,18b-26): In whatever way, with ulterior motives or with sincerity, Christ is announced, and I rejoice; and I will continue to rejoice, because I know that this will be for my good, thanks to your prayers and the Spirit of Jesus Christ who helps me. I look forward to it, because in no case will I be defeated; On the contrary, now, as always, Christ will be openly glorified in my body, whether by my life or my death. For me life is Christ, and dying is gain. But if living this mortal life means fruitful work for me, I don’t know what to choose. I find myself in this dilemma: on the one hand, I want to leave to be with Christ, which is by far the best; But, on the other hand, I see that staying in this life is more necessary for you. Convinced of this, I feel that I will stay and be at your side, so that you may advance joyfully in the faith, so that the pride you feel for me in Jesus Christ will overflow when I find myself among you again. Word of God Jesus entered the house of one of the leading Pharisees to eat, and they were spying on him. Noticing that the guests chose the first places, he proposed this parable to them: “When you are invited to a wedding, do not sit in the main place, lest they have invited someone of higher rank than you; and the one who invited you and the other will come and say to you, «Give the place to this one.» Then, ashamed, you will go to take the last place. On the contrary, when they invite you, go sit in the last place, so that when the one who invited you comes, he can tell you: «Friend, go up higher.» Then you will look very good to all the diners. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Word of the Lord
