Sunday of the XXX Week in Ordinary Time

Sunday, October 25, 2026 Reading from the book of Exodus (22:20-26): Thus says the Lord: «You will not oppress or harass the stranger, because you were strangers in Egypt. You will not exploit widows or orphans, because if you exploit them and they cry out to me, I will listen to them. My anger will be kindled and I will make you die by the sword, leaving your wives widows and your children orphans. If you lend money to one of my people, to a poor person who lives with you, you will not be a usurer with him, charging him interest. If you take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, you will return it to him before the sun sets, because he has no other clothing to cover his body, and where else will he lie down? If you cry out to me, I will listen to you, because I am compassionate.” Word of God Salt 17,2-3a.3bc-4.47.51ab R/. I love you, Lord; you are my strength I love you, Lord; you are my strength; Lord, my rock, my castle, my liberator. R/. My God, my rock, my refuge, my shield, my saving strength, my stronghold. I call on the Lord of my praise and I am free from my enemies. R/. Long live the Lord, blessed be my Rock, be exalted my God and Savior. You gave great victory to your king, you had mercy on your Anointed One. R/. Reading from the first letter of the apostle Saint Paul to the Thessalonians (1:5c-10): You know what our action was among you for your good. And you followed our example and that of the Lord, welcoming the word amidst so much struggle with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Thus you became a model for all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. From your Church, the word of the Lord has resounded not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but everywhere. Your faith in God had spread from mouth to mouth, so that we had no need to explain anything, since they themselves told the details of the welcome you gave us: how, abandoning idols, you turned to God, to serve the living and true God, and to live awaiting the return of his Son Jesus from heaven, whom he has raised from the dead and who frees us from future punishment. Word of God Reading of the holy gospel according to Saint Matthew (22,34-40): At that time, the Pharisees, upon hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, formed a group, and one of them, who was an expert in the Law, asked him to test him: “Teacher, what is the main commandment of the Law?” He said to him: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your being.” This commandment is the main and first. The second is similar to it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” These two commandments support the entire Law and the prophets. Word of the Lord
